  • King Edward’s statue is located outside the first gate (from where we entered near Cubbon road metro station).
  • It functions as the Seshadri Memorial Library, which is a part of the park’s facilities.
  • For instance, it is the only Indian zoo that has all three species of Rhino i.e. white, black and Indian rhino.

The lush greenery of Cubbon Park provides a relaxing atmosphere to the nature lovers visiting the park. Cubbon park is under the maintenance of Horticulture Department of the Karnataka government. Apt to the title of Garden City, Bangalore boasts of a number of parks providing the lung space to the city dwellers amidst the chaos of traffic and pollution. The palace, which resembles England’s Windsor Castle, offers visitors a glimpse into Bangalore's royal history, complete with lavish interiors, paintings, and royal artifacts.

If you really want a green escapade from your hectic routine then do visit this park to soak into the heritage Sri Chamarajendra Park of the city and also to witness the rich biodiversity this park offers. Statue is installed at the center of the rose garden and visitors are not allowed to get inside this garden for obvious reasons. So I decided to explore this park on a morning walk along with my dad so that at least with this reason I will get to visit this famous park of Bangalore.

Sri Chamarajendra Park

It is estimated to have about 85 different species of trees along with 35 varying species of ornamental plants. This zoo boasts of many exquisite species of plants as well. With Karanji Lake being included in the zoo, the zoo now attracts of a range of birds as well. This zoo had also received calves of elephant, tiger and leopard cubs, etc. that were successfully raised here.

  • The park is open on all days except on Monday and second Tuesday of the month.
  • Cubbon Park, located in Bangalore, is renowned for its lush greenery, serene ambience, and historical monuments, such as the State Central Library and Attara Kacheri.
  • Established in 1870 by Sir Richard Sankey, the then Chief Engineer of Mysore, the park was later named after Sri Chamarajendra Wadiyar, the former ruler of Mysore.
  • To commemorate the Silver Jubilee of Sri Krishnaraja Wodeyar’s rule in Mysore State, in 1927, the park was again renamed as Sri.
  • The symmetrically shaped park is spread over an area of 334 acres.

National Park/Wildlife Sanctuary

Km and a collection of 2.65 lakh books including Braille section, the library is worth visiting for its vast collection of books. Built in European style architecture with Tuscan and Corinthian columns, this memorial building is a must visit place for book lovers as it houses the Seshadri Memorial library. Another place worth visiting on a trip to Cubbon Park is the State Archeological Museum that resides within the premises of the park. A favorite among the children, Toy train ride in Cubbon Park should not be missed by anyone visiting the park. Located at the entrance of Cubbon Park, Bangalore aquarium greets its visitors with its exotic range of fishes. The statue of Sri Chamarajendra Wodeyar that was installed in 1927 is located right in the center of the park near the tennis pavilion.

Initially spread over an area of 100 acres, the park was later expanded to around 300 acres of land. However, later the park was renamed as Cubbon Park in the memory of Sir Mark Cubbon who was then the longest serving commissioner. After his name, the park was initially named as Meade’s Park. Other popular tree from the ornamental species that can be seen in the park is Delonix/ Gulmohar Tree. One of the major attractions of the park is the Grevillea Robusta (Silver Oak) which is the first oak brought in Bangalore from Australia. There are approximately 6000 varieties of plants and trees in Cubbon Park Bangalore with around 68 genera and 96 species.
