According to the Sri Chamarajendra Park Preservation Act passed by the state government in the year 1979, no constructions are allowed inside the Park nor any additional land can be granted for any further constructions. Later, in the year of  1927, it was again renamed as Sri Chamarajendra Park to mark the Silver Jubilee of Sri Krishnaraja Wodeyar’s rule in Mysore State. Later it was renamed as Cubbon Park in the honor of the longest-serving commissioner of the time, Sir Mark Cubbon.

Iyer Hall, with a rose garden in front, is another historic building, which now houses the State Central Library alias Seshadri Iyer Memorial Library. Bengaluru was under his rule when the park came into existence in 1870.

The nearest metro station to reach Cubbon Park is the Cubbon Park Metro Station, which is 15 meters away from one of the entrances to the park. The motorable roads which run through the park are allowed for light motor vehicles only. The predominantly green area of the park has many motorable roads, and the well-laid-out walking paths running through the park are frequented by early morning walkers and the naturalists who study plants in the tranquil natural environment. Chamarajendra Park, in memory of the 19th-century ruler of the state Sri Chamarajendra Wodeyar (1868–94), during whose rule the park came into existence. To commemorate the Silver Jubilee of Sri Krishnaraja Wodeyar's rule in Mysore State, in 1927, the park was again renamed as Sri. It has a rich recorded history of abundant flora and fauna plantations coupled with numerous impressive and aesthetically located buildings and statues of famous personages, in its precincts.

During summer season, most of the animals and birds stay hidden due to heat, hence it is advisable to visit either before 10.30 AM or after 3 PM in summers. It is estimated to have about 85 different species of trees along with 35 varying species of ornamental plants.

As you walk through the park, you will encounter several structures that are as iconic as the trees surrounding them. Initially, the area was a barren landscape, but Sankey envisioned a sprawling botanical garden that would serve as a focal point for the city’s administrative district.
